life in the pond.

This post is coming to you months after I expected it would. Amid the uncertainty and anxiety of a global pandemic and the seriousness of the Black Lives Matter movement I have watched the seasons change around me as they always do. Finding comfort in the consistency and strength of the natural cycles that sustain each of us. At last, this little update is reaching you along with my wish that you are safe, healthy and supported through this trying time in our collective stories.

Here in Mooresburg, we have enjoyed many of the quiet moments that were overlooked during our busy ‘normal lives’. Watching life develop in the little pond near our home has been a favourite pastime. Before the mosquitoes took over its banks, Emily spent some very happy afternoons knitting by the water. Sitting quietly and waiting for the turtles to emerge in the pockets of sunlight. An endless variety of frogs laid thousands of little eggs which have now become thousands of little tadpoles wriggling around at the edges of the water. Now, water lilies are blooming in white, yellow and (best of all) pink! Whether you are near a pond full of frogs or not, there is likely something wonderful in your surroundings that you might not have had time to enjoy before our world was turned upside down. Hopefully it has put a smile on your face.

During my contemplative knitting time by the pond I dreamt up a little game for you…

SPOT THE FROG(S)!

There is at least one cute little frog in each of the images below, can you find them?

Watching life grow, move and change in this little pond has brought me so much happiness this year and I am welcoming the reminder to slow down and count the frogs, pollywogs, turtles, minnows, etc.

That little bit of water supports so much life! Every square inch contains layer upon layer of fascinating and beautiful life. Here’s just a little more for you…
