our Open Day is almost here!

Lots and lots of yarn is ready for the big day and we spent much of last week sorting, skeining and tagging in preparation. Watching everything come together is always wonderful and this year we even surprised ourselves with the gorgeous selection of yarn that is almost ready for next weekend. On this sunny Sunday morning, my entire family pitched in with tagging skeins while Lucy snoozed in the sunshine and Pitou remained focused on two bunnies outside the window.

I (Emily) have been knitting the pair shown below for longer than I care to admit. The pattern is excellent. It’s really fun to knit, clear and intuitive. I continue to mess it up, which is why you can see that mitten being pulled back (for the fourth time!) only because I am rushing in excitement. Good thing we have lots of time before the winter weather returns! We brought MCN Worsted out of retirement in order to make these kits, and are so glad that we did!

Apricite Sweater Kits $230 - $268
Apricite is one of the most perfect cosy winter pullovers that I have ever beheld. I knew I wanted to knit it from the moment I saw Kiyomi’s sketch. Shadow DK is not always available to us, but the stars aligned and these kits turned out to be beautiful! There will be three different colour options, including the original colours, shown below. The other two are a surprise! (originally published in Laine Magazine, Issue 7)

In addition to Viola yarn, you’ll also be able to shop from handwoven cloth from Amanda Rataj, handprinted and sewn bags from Bookhou, handmade Jewellery from Hedgling, locally raised sheepskins from Blacksheep Farm (their farm is around the corner from us, and I can attest to the fact that their sheep are happy and very well cared for), knitting patterns from Kiyomi Burgin and hand carved knitting sheaths by a lovely friend, Hans Peter. Each vendor is generously donating something to our giveaway, so don’t forget to fill out a ballot while you’re here! With great thanks to each vendor who is joining us, next weekend. This day is going to be so much fun!
